DARPA's Pet-Proto getting ready for challenge

The Department of Defense’s strategic plan calls for the Joint Force to conduct humanitarian, disaster relief and related operations.  The DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC) will attempt to address this capability gap by promoting innovation in robotic technology for disaster-response operations.  Events are planned for June 2013, December 2013 and December 2014.

The primary goal of the DARPA Robotics Challenge program is to develop ground robotic capabilities to execute complex tasks in dangerous, degraded, human-engineered environments. The program will focus on robots that can utilize available human tools, ranging from hand tools to vehicles. The program aims to advance the key robotic technologies of supervised autonomy, mounted mobility, dismounted mobility, dexterity, strength, and platform endurance.

Here is a small video released by Darpa showing the skill sets of the Pet-Proto which aims to satisfy the conditions of the DARPA Robotic Challenge.
